A Paragould father has been reunited with his daughter who had been missing for more than a year. According to the Jonesboro Police Department, 4-year-old Alyssa Lee was reunited with her custodial father, Brandon Lee, early Tuesday morning, after her mom, Christine Flick, took the girl about 12 months ago.

Police chiefs gather for regional meeting
PARAGOULD, AR - Police chiefs from all over Region 8 came together Thursday to better Region 8 law enforcement. It was all a part of the Northeast Regional Meeting for the Association of Chiefs of Police. Chad Henson, Trumann Chief of Police, said while they talk often, it's great to have the time together. "Network together, and that's what we do," Henson said. The program requires police departments to go through training to learn how to exceed the expectations of their jobs and go beyond just the minimum standards of law enforcement.
New app lets people submit crime tips anonymously
TRUMANN, AR - According to Trumann police, only 49% of crimes are reported, and the department wants to lower the 51% that aren't reported. Trumann Police Chief Chad Henson encourages everyone to download Quiktip. Quiktip is a new app available to most police departments. It's an app made by a local company headquartered in Jonesboro called Relativity, Inc. If there is an emergency, Henson said to still call 911 first, but as for tips all you have to do is download the app to start making a difference.
Trumann's new GeoArt program a success for students and school
TRUMANN, AR - Geometry and Art, important subjects, but when combined the learning environment can completely change. Trumann High School started a GeoArt class this past year. The Geometry and Art teachers collaborated to find interesting and fun ways to link the 2 subjects. Kenzye Roe, a 10th grade GeoArt student, said combining the 2 subjects helps her remember the math practices she learned. "It was a lot different," Roe said. The teachers are already thinking of projects for August.
Trumann calls for special election for sales tax extension
TRUMANN, AR - Citizens of Trumann will soon be getting some information regarding a special election in August. The special election is to vote on extending the cities current sales tax. Lewallen said they have an opportunity to refinance the bond, which would lower the interest rate, and help the city gain $2 million in capital funds. Lewallen said the vote is to extend the current 1 cent sales tax for 4 years. "Work on our utilities, water and sewer, to resurface streets, to put a new roof on the library," Lewallen said.
Police arrest 3 suspected in rash of car break-ins
JONESBORO, AR - Jonesboro police have arrested three men suspected in a series of vehicle break-ins. Eiichi Jumwanna Moore, 19, of Trumann; Terrance A. West, 19, of Hayti; and Kerry L. Kindred, 24, of Jonesboro were arrested Wednesday during a traffic stop in the 1800-block of Highland Drive. Investigators say the three were captured on surveillance video using the stolen credit cards within hours of the break-ins at Walmart, 1911 E. Parker Rd., and Kum & Go, 4810 E. Highland.
Trumann repaving streets thanks to grant
TRUMANN, AR - A Region 8 city makes more plans to improve the community. The city of Trumann has big plans ahead. Mayor Barbara Lewallen said these streets were chosen based on being high traffic areas. "Of course we would love to do more, but you know $250,000 seems like a lot of money, but when you are doing paving and then you have to do the crosswalks, sidewalk accesses, so that it eats up a little of your money," Lewallen said. Lewallen said this is just another step in the larger plan to make major improvements in the city of Trumann.

A video of Michael Spray playing his harmonica to the tune of "Amazing Grace" was posted 2 years ago on Facebook, but it's recently become a hit with more than 17,000 likes and over 127,000 shares. "I would like to thank everyone for the overwhelming response to my video of Amazing Grace. Who would have guessed it would have received so much attention. Thanks to everyone who watched and shared," Spray said on Facebook.

Trumann woman finds special dress in the road
- A Trumann woman found a wedding dress abandoned in the middle of the road. Haynes decided to stop and see if the contents were important. "It was a wedding dress and I was just bowled over," Haynes said. She made sure the road was clear and quickly picked up the box out of the rain before it was run over by another driver. Haynes decided to take the dress home and dry it off since the bottom of the box was already wet. "I thought if this dress were mine I would want it back so I wanted to do what I would want somebody to do for me," Haynes said.
3 arrested after train crashes into car
- Three people were arrested after a train crashed into their vehicle Tuesday night. Poinsett County Sheriff Larry Mills said a train hit a car shortly after 9:08 Tuesday night after the driver tried to cross railroad tracks from the ditch. The car then got stuck on the tracks when the train hit. It happened on Tulot Road south of Trumann. All three people were able to get out of the car safely. Mills said alcohol was a factor in the crash.
Volunteers requested to help small community from possible flooding
- Residents in Poinsett County are fighting the flood waters to keep their neighbors dry and are asking for help. According to Neal Vickers of the Trumann Area Chamber of Commerce, the Trumann Fire Department and various other volunteers are working to fill and stack sandbags to save the Oak Donnick community. Vickers said that any volunteer who wants to help in the effort can call the chamber at 870- 483-5424 or show up at the Oak Donnick boat ramp at noon. Vickers said 5 families live in Oak Donnick and suffered damage from the flood in 2011.

- A Craighead County man was arrested last week for theft and fraud after officers used surveillance video from an ATM to identify him. 29, dispatch received a report of a red car abandoned on County Road 780. A wrecker was called to take the vehicle away and a search was done on it. Deputies found a Sears bag in the car. After leaving the scene, deputies got a call a man had just come out of the woods on County Road 780 and was walking west on Highway 141. The man was identified as 37-year-old Adam Hill of Jonesboro.
Active-shooter alert by ASU went too far, defense tells jurors
Arkansas State University officials overreacted when they issued an active-shooter alert after Brad Kenneth Bartelt drove onto campus with a loaded shotgun Dec. 10, his defense attorney said Monday in the opening statements of Bartelt's trial in Craighead County Circuit Court. Bartelt, 48, is charged with five counts of aggravated assault and one count each of making a terroristic threat and terroristic threatening, after he held police at bay for about an hour near the Carl R. Reng Center on the ASU-Jonesboro campus before surrendering.

TRUMANN, AR - The Trumann School District said the car line at Cedar Park Elementary will be down two lanes. They posted on their Facebook page that a water leak is being repaired and that is what caused the reduction in traffic.
Bartelt guilty, faces 18 years for ASU scare
Brad Kenneth Bartelt is guilty of making a terroristic threat and terroristic threatening after driving onto the Arkansas State University campus with a shotgun and a propane tank and holding police at bay for over an hour in December, Craighead County Circuit Court jurors decided Friday. Bartelt, 48, of Jonesboro was sentenced to 18 years for making a terroristic threat and six years for terroristic threatening.
