New lawyer appointed in Jerry Lard appeal case
HARRISBURG, AR - A man convicted in the murder of a Trumann police officer made a brief appearance in a Harrisburg courtroom Tuesday for a Rule 37.5 hearing, which is a special hearing for individuals sentenced to death in Arkansas. According to the 2nd Judicial District Prosecutor's Office, Poinsett County Circuit Judge Brent Davis appointed Jerry Lard, 40, of Trumann a new lawyer in the appeal process.

Rescue struggles to care for dogs who were seized in animal cruelty case
Dogs seized from a breeder in Trumann, Arkansas, in early October are now in the care of a non-profit rescue organization which is struggling to pay for their care. Animal control was alerted to the less-than-stellar conditions by neighbors who reported the smell of feces emanating from an Olive Street home - nearly 20 dogs were taken from the property and the dogs' owner later surrendered custody to animal control.

After finishing second two consecutive years, David St. John of Conway won the World's Championship Duck Calling Contest on Saturday at the 79th Wings Over the Prairie Festival. TRUMANN, AR - A Poinsett County judge sentenced a Trumann man to five years in prison for "inappropriately touching himself in front of a child" and showing the child pornography. John Hillis, 35, of Trumann pleaded guilty to felony sexual indecency with a child, according to a sentencing order filed in Poinsett County Circuit Court.

Man on bicycle dead days after being hit by truck
TRUMANN, AR - A Trumann man has died following a crash involving a truck days earlier. Keith Davies, 66, was pronounced dead at a Memphis hospital following the crash on Nov. 23, according to Arkansas State Police.
